The turquoise waters of the Gulf of Teulada conceal an underwater museum from classical antiquity. The seabed preserves the remains of several Roman merchant ships that sank nearly two thousand years ago while carrying cargoes of wine and olive oil amphorae. Deep sea conditions and specific coastal currents helped preserve the wooden hulls and ceramic artifacts. Accessible primarily to technical divers, these underwater archaeological sites continue to yield insights into ancient Mediterranean trade routes.
