At the archaeological site of Mont’e Prama, located on the Sinis Peninsula near Cabras, archaeologists made one of the most groundbreaking discoveries in Mediterranean history. In 1974, over 5,000 stone fragments were unearthed and painstakingly reassembled, revealing dozens of colossal monolithic statues standing over two meters tall. Sculpted by the mysterious Nuragic civilization nearly 3,000 years ago, these statues depict detailed warriors with shields, archers with horned helmets, and boxers. Their significance lies in their age: these sculptures are the oldest free-standing statues ever found in the Western Mediterranean, predating Classical Greek sculpture by centuries.
