Aglientu and the Gallura Region

Located in northern Sardinia, Aglientu is a coastal municipality featuring seventeen kilometers of shoreline defined by white sand beaches, granite promontories, and Mediterranean vegetation.

Perched on granite hills at an altitude of 420 meters above sea level, Aglientu spans elevations up to 639 meters. The local economy combines pastoral farming, viticulture, and cereal production with coastal tourism. A key feature of the interior is the Stazzo, the traditional rural homestead.
Name Origins
Attested historically as Argentu or Allentu, hypothesized origins include Gallurese Alghjentu (“silvery”) or Agliu (“white/clear”).
