Rising above the Marmilla plain, Su Nuraxi di Barumini is an impressive archaeological complex designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Dating back to the 15th century BCE, Su Nuraxi is not merely an isolated Nuragic tower, but a fortified prehistoric citadel. The complex centers on a central tower surrounded by four outer towers linked by a massive defensive wall, all built without mortar using giant dry-laid basalt blocks. Inside lies an intricate network of stone corridors, spiral staircases, and corbeled dome chambers (tholos), built to command a strategic view over the agricultural plains below.
