Nestled in the Ogliastra mountains, the village of Ulassai sits beneath towering limestone crags locally known as Tacchi. Throughout history, massive rockslides from the cliffs frequently blocked mountain paths, isolating the community from the rest of Sardinia. This geographical isolation preserved archaic traditions, folk songs, legends, and unique local dialects. Today, those same vertical rock faces that once posed a constant hazard have been embraced by outdoor enthusiasts, transforming Ulassai into an international hub for sport climbing.
