At the tip of the Sinis Peninsula, near the ruins of the ancient Phoenician-Roman city of Tharros, stands the Capo San Marco lighthouse. Archaeological excavations around the modern light station revealed that it sits directly atop ancient Phoenician and Roman temples and ritual sites. This site offers an example of geographic continuity over thousands of years: the same headland that served ancient mariners as a navigational landmark and place of worship continues to fulfill its purpose today, guiding modern ships with its beacon.
