Situated in the heart of Sardinia, Lake Omodeo is one of the largest artificial reservoirs in Europe. The lake was created in the early 20th century following the construction of the massive Santa Chiara dam along the Tirso River — a monumental engineering feat for its era. The reservoir winds for several kilometers, cutting deep into barren hills, basaltic ridges, and steep plateaus. The branching, fjord-like shape of its rocky shorelines gives the area a visual appearance reminiscent of Scandinavian landscapes.
