Sardinia’s river network is heavily shaped by the island’s steep, rugged terrain, resulting in short river basins with highly unpredictable water flow. Most streams are torrential: dry riverbeds during summer months can transform within hours of heavy rainfall into raging, destructive torrents. Standing out in this seasonal hydrological landscape is the Temo River, which flows through the heart of Bosa. The Temo holds the distinction of being the only navigable river in Sardinia, inland for several kilometers from its estuary. This unique trait made it a key commercial and transport artery since Phoenician and Roman times, allowing ships to sail directly into the historical town center.
