Held annually from May 1st to May 4th, the Feast of Saint Efisius (Sant’Efisio) in Cagliari is the longest religious procession in Italy. Fulfilling a municipal vow made in 1656 to thank the martyr for saving the city from the plague, thousands of pilgrims march on foot, horseback, and decorated ox-carts (traccas) along a 65-kilometer route from Cagliari to Pula and back. Participants wear immaculate, diverse traditional costumes representing hundreds of Sardinian villages, turning the event into a breathtaking showcase of faith, folklore, and historical pageantry.
